Jessica DeLallo
Title I Director
September 2023
September is up and running, and hopefully, school is off to a great start across the great State of Nevada! The Title I Team is so excited about some of the initiatives and plans underway for our Title I LEAs—you all are setting a firm foundation to raise the academic achievement of our lowest-performing students at our highest-poverty schools!
The Office of Student and School Supports (OSSS) is happy to announce the release of our new Carryover Process for the ESSA Entitlement Grants. If superintendents have not received the memo describing the new process and the plan template, it will be coming imminently. The new Carryover Process aims to promptly ensure the expenditure of all federal awards. All entitled students must have the resources they need in the current academic year to ensure their academic success. Funding not expended on approved activities can be reallocated to LEAs to use those carryover dollars before they revert to the National Treasury. NDE's goal is to expend all funds allocated to Nevada on Nevada students—our goal is to revert $0.00 federal dollars. In the new Carryover Process, LEAs need to identify the following:
The fiscal year and program for which they are requesting carryover.
The amount they would like to carry over.
The reason they have not expended all Title funding.
The plan to expend their remaining funds. NOTE: Funds must align with the original, approved plan.
The dates by which they plan to expend their carryover funding.
For more information about the new Carryover Process, don't hesitate to contact Director Maria Sauter at msauter@doe.nv.gov or jessica.delallo@doe.nv.gov.
We wish you all a successful and impactful 2023-2024 school year. As a reminder, The Office of Student and School Supports (OSSS) will not be scheduling a Fall Federal Titles Director Meeting (FTDM) this year. For important program updates, please make sure that you attend our monthly Office Hours. Our next Office Hour session will be on September 27, 2023, at 9:00 am. Please sign up for invitations to these important events in the Title I Newsletter “Office Hours" Section.
